About us

The New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE) and the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Practice (NZDEP) are national qualifications that have been developed with industry to meet industry needs. They respond to industry's call for technician level qualifications that recognise practical skills by combining quality academic study to national standards with a rigorous and structured assessment of practical skills. The two qualifications provide a structured pathway to a rewarding career as an engineering technician in the manufacturing or infrastructure sector.

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (NZ BEngTech) is a three year internationally recognised degree offered in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical disciplines. The degree was created to meet the need for more engineering technologist level practitioners in industries such as roading, environmental works, structural engineering, mechanical engineering and electronics. Engineering Technologists solve practical engineering problems by understanding engineering theory and developing practical, real life work skills.

NZDE

The NZDE is a two-year diploma which leads to an in demand and rewarding career as an engineering technician.  Engineering technicians use their theoretical and technical knowledge to apply practical solutions in the engineering industry.

NZDEP

The NZDEP is a work-based qualification. The qualification tests the trainee's practical application of engineering knowledge and skill in a particular industry sector (civil, mechanical or electrical/electronic). It involves the development and application of the general skills required for independent practice as an engineering technician.

BEngTech

The BEngTech is a three-year degree and a fast track to a rewarding and challenging career as engineering technologists. Technologists are in huge demand in New Zealand and overseas. Engineering technologists apply mathematical, natural science and engineering fundamentals to design and oversee the execution of solutions for a broad range of engineering problems, and research and investigate possibilities to propose the best options and most appropriate techniques and resources.

Expressions of Interest – Learner & Graduate Advisory Group

Are you a current NZDE (or NZDEP) learner or have you recently graduated with one of these qualifications? Do you want to hear from some of our industry champions and grow your network?

We are looking for interested parties to join our Learner & Graduate Advisory Group.

This group will advocate for learners and graduates and will work closely with the VEE.NZ Quality Assurance Committee to provide insights and recommendations from a learner and graduate perspective.

Each meeting will also feature a guest speaker from industry or Engineering NZ, offering you an opportunity to expand your network and learn some more about the many paths you can take in your career.

If you are keen to add your learner or graduate voice to the delivery of the NZDE and NZDEP – please fill out the form and send this through to Trudy Harris, [email protected].
